About The Sight Word Bingo Game

Uncover the jewels by selecting the word the owl says, when the jewels line up to make a complete horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row, you have won! Around half of all text in books is made up of 100 words. Yes just 100! If your child can recognize those 100 words by looking at them he can pretty much read most of the text he comes across. Teaching your child sight words teaches him to unconsciously make a connection with the word he sees and its definition. Learning sight words (also called high frequency words) also helps help early readers with challenging words that are hard to decode phonetically. There are 2 lists that are popular. The Dolch sight word list compiled in 1936, and the Fry sight word List compiled by by Dr. Edward B. Fry in 1996. Dolchs' list has 220 words and Fry's has 1000 words. The Dolch list is the most commonly used list, this game is based on that list.
